Christmas Meringue Cookies II

2 egg whites
1/8 teaspoon cream of tartar
1/8 teaspoon salt
3/4 cup granulated sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla
1/4 cup chopped pecans or walnuts
8 ounces chocolate chips

Whip to soft peaks 2 egg whites, 1/8 teaspoon each of salt and cream of tartar. Gradually add 3/4 cup of sugar and vanilla and beat to stiff peaks. Fold in chocolate chips and nuts. Drop batter with spoon on parchment paper. Bake for 25 minutes at 300°. Makes about 40 cookies.
